Stupid Cows! Reed Gunther Zine

Here it is folks!

Enjoy a goofy little short story following the adventures of Reed and Sterling*.

These little stories will be free giveaways at future comic conventions (unless you would like to help us cover printing costs by donating $0.25) and Chris and I will have different custom stamps to mark each issue in the white box on the cover.

Also, the back is a blank page, perfect for a custom drawing from Chris!  (I’ll draw you a picture if you want, but no promises on it looking good!)

*To be used to sustain Reed cravings while Chris and I work on the next issue.

Happy Reading!

Pin Up Love

In the back of Reed Gunther issues, we like to include pin ups by various artist and friends who use their phenomenal talents to put their own spin on Reed and gang.  It’s always a joy to see your familiar characters through another person’s eyes.

For issue 3 (release date TBD), we just received a rocking pin up from Detroit artist Sean “Smack” Mack!

Here’s a preview of Sean’s Reed Gunther pin up, but pop over to his site to check out the full thing or wait until Reed’s 3rd issue hits the stands!  But you should probably just visit his site.

8-Bit Reed!

Howdy Folks!

My good buddy, video game designer, and all around fantastic Italian dude, Nico Zilli, sent me this amazing little bit of fan art in glorious retro style!

8-Bit Reed

Nico nailed Reed’s tumble-weed posture and pistol-drawing charisma!  All in just a few pixels!  Amazing!

Nico’s been a big fan of Reed Gunther and even helped me put this very site together so many thanks are due to him.  Be sure to check out his game development blog and play his awesome idle game, A Knight’s Story!

Hero Sandwich Review!

Check it out!  The super nice Scott Slemmons reviewed both The Steak Snacking Snake! and A Stalac-TIGHT Spot! over at his awesome comic blog, Hero Sandwhich!

Scott says stuff like:

“Shane and Chris Houghton have cooked up a very funny and accessible most-ages comic”

“The action is even better here, with several outright cinematic moments”

“What kind of cowboy rides a bear instead of a horse?”

Our goofy cowboy!  Thanks for the review Scott!

Contest Prizes!

You may remember a little while back we posted the winners for the Reed Gunther Fill In the Word Balloon Contest.  The winner, Jimmy Gray received a bunch of Reed Gunther goodies including a custom drawing by Chris!  We asked Jimmy what he would like his drawing to be and he replied:

“It’d be cool to see Reed and Sterling in a kung fu movie, (like a cover for the movie, outfits like something out of an old jackie chan movie, with the title being something like ’Sacred Fur and the Cowboy Fist!’)”

Great idea Jimmy!  That’s a hilarious title, and I would totally go see THAT movie!

And with that amazing suggestion, here’s what Chris sent out to Jimmy:

Awesome and goofy!  Great drawing Chris!

With such a cool prize going to the grand prize winner, I felt bad for our runner up, Andrew Adams, who also had a fantastic submission!  So I thought I’d send him custom drawing as well.  Only from me.  The writer.  Not artist.

I asked Andrew what he would like his custom drawing from me to entail, and he sent me this suggestion:

Andrew and Shane: Nazi Leechmonster Slayers”

Origin: Mole People

Mole_Men_smHey Everyone!

If you’ve picked up issue #2, the you know who these baddies are.  These mole people live in the caves underneath an unsuspecting Western town and cause all sorts of trouble for Reed and gang.

When writing Reed Gunther, I like the idea of using classic folktales or urban myths as a starting point for as many characters as I can.  With these guys, I knew this story would be taking place underground so I needed some subterranean creatures to play with.  I haven’t spent much time in New York, but I do love the idea of Mole People inhabiting the tunnels beneath the city.
